When she was initially inspired by the shadows she observed on the grass of the trees, she worked for months in developing a process that did not depict an object as a two-dimensional image. The image has been transformed to the artist's own image which is based on the artist's interpretation. This is especially effective when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life like fruits and people. Alexa Meade's painting style, which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is her photograph. As the photographic and painting methods are closely coordinated, the end result is a trompe l'oeil effect, where the illusion of 3D appears only at specific locations, like the area around the eyes or hair. Meade occasionally integrates painted models into the environment around them. It allows them to be part of the world the artist has constructed. By doing so, Meade has removed the borders between photography, painting and performing.
